This is a study of falconry by a man with over fifty years’ experience who has taken the trouble to share it with us. Every element of gamehawking, particularly with gyrfalcons, is acutely observed and analysed: the result is fascinating.

FAQs
What is the difference between the GPS and GPS Pro System?
- Support for up to 10 or 20 transmitters - Titanium and smaller transmitter body - Private network - Ability to allow friends to connect to your system with their Pro system for tracking or recovery assistance. - Idle mode for optimized lifecycle operation - Smart Double battery with intelligent sensor fusion. - Race training mode for up to 18 packets update rate.
Does the system require cell service to work?
No. The system uses a "Direct Connect" radio-frequency (RF) signal between the transmitter and the Pocketlink receiver. Because it doesn't rely on cell towers, you can use it anywhere in the world without worrying about dead zones. You can also download maps for offline use.
Are there any monthly fees or SIM cards required?
No. Since the system communicates via direct RF connection rather than a cellular network, there are no SIM cards to maintain and no monthly cellular data fees required to operate the standard tracking features.
How long does the transmitter's battery last?
The Turbo-GPS transmitter features swappable, rechargeable batteries. On default settings, it lasts 2-3 days, but you can configure the modes in the app to extend battery life up to 7 days.
How long does the Pocketlink receiver battery last?
The Pocketlink has an internal rechargeable lithium battery that provides 30+ hours of runtime between charges.
What is the typical tracking range?
Range depends on the terrain, elevation, and obstacles. On average, the GPS data tracking range is 2 to 100 miles. If the bird is on the ground or out of GPS range, you can track its traditional RF "beeping" signal from 5 to 200 miles (using an optional UHF tracking receiver).
Can I track multiple birds at the same time?
Yes. A single Pocketlink receiver can simultaneously track up to 5 Turbo-GPS transmitters, making it perfect for users flying multiple birds.
How do I mount the transmitter to my bird?
The transmitter has a user-configurable design. You can easily swap the mounting method in the field to attach it to your bird's tail, back, leg, or neck.
What smart devices are compatible with the AeroVision app?
For Apple users, it requires an iPhone 11 or newer, or a cellular-enabled iPad running iOS 17 or later. For Android, it requires higher-end models like the Samsung S21/A52 or Google Pixel 6 running Android OS 11–14. (Note: Tablets must be "cellular-enabled" to have the required internal GPS hardware, even though you don't need an active data plan).
