A beeping tone from the speaker. A needle showing signal strength. No screen to squint at — you read it like an instrument, because it is one.

The Transmitters
UHF 432-436 MHz
Short UHF wavelengths reflect crisply off hard surfaces, producing distinct, sharp directional signals with minimal "bounce" in challenging environments. UHF requires a significantly shorter, low-profile antenna on the bird, reducing aerodynamic drag whether tail or leg-mounted. Best For: Mountainous terrain, rocky cliffs, urban edge environments.

VHF 216–219 MHz
VHF signals feature longer wavelengths that efficiently bend over horizons, wrap around rolling hills, and penetrate heavy, dense forest canopy. Best For: Flat open plains, heavily wooded areas, and tracking scenarios where extreme distance and signal penetration are the top priorities.
